A little bit about Linzee…

Linzee Kull McCray comes to fabric design from a checkered past: among other things, she’s been a bookstore clerk, worked at a botanical garden, and taught childbirth education to expectant parents. Bottom line: she’s curious about everything and finally realized that a career in journalism gave her the perfect excuse to ask questions.

After 13 years as a writer and editor for the University of Iowa, Linzee turned her focus to freelancing on topics dear to her heart: textiles, craft, and art. Following the publication of her book, Feed Sacks: The Colourful History of a Frugal Fabric, she was delighted when Moda asked her to create a line of feed sack-inspired fabrics. Linzee adores the thousands of different prints and colorways that feed sacks came in, but she also deeply admires the resilience and resourcefulness of the women who used them to stitch curtains, dresses, diapers, dishtowels, and so much more.

In addition to writing for Moda’s Cutting Table blog, Linzee’s writing appears in American Patchwork and Quilting, UPPERCASE, American Quilt Retailer, Modern Patchwork, Quilt Sampler, Oprah, and on Etsy’s blog. She’s also the author of the book Art Quilts of the Midwest, and has curated museum exhibitions based on her books. Linzee grew up in California and lives in Iowa.
