A little bit about the designer
LINZEE KULL MCCRAY
Linzee Kull McCray comes to fabric design from a checkered past: among other things, she’s been a bookstore clerk, worked at a botanical garden, and taught childbirth education to expectant parents. Bottom line: she’s curious about everything and finally realized that a career in journalism gave her the perfect excuse to ask questions. After 13 years as a writer and editor for the University of Iowa, Linzee turned her focus to topics dear to her heart: textiles, craft, and art. Following the publication of her book, Feed Sacks: The Colourful History of a Frugal Fabric, she was delighted when Moda asked her to create a line of feed-sack inspired fabrics. Linzee adores the thousands of different prints and colorways of the original feed sacks, but also deeply admires the resilience and resourcefulness of the women who used them to stitch curtains, dresses, diapers, dishtowels, and so much more. She continues to share her love of vintage textiles through the 30s Playtime line of fabrics. In addition to writing for Moda’s blog and catalog, Linzee’s written dozens of articles for Etsy, American Patchwork and Quilting, UPPERCASE and many other publications. She’s also the author of the book Art Quilts of the Midwest, which served as the basis of four exhibitions at quilt museums around the country. She’s subsequently curated exhibitions on feed sacks and string-pieced quilts and enjoys sharing her love of quilts and vintage textiles in talks to quilt guilds, libraries, and textile organizations around the country and internationally
